Orateur : Damian Marhkam (QI/LIP6/Sorbonne University) Titre: Introduction to Quantum Computing and Languages Abstract: In this talk I will give an introduction to quantum computation and briefly describe some of the recent progress in quantum programming languages, as well as the related research going on in the QI team. I will present the key issues that make quantum computing structurally different classical computing, and recent progress in understanding the role of certain quantum features, such as contextuality, in computational speedup. I will endeavour to explain the issues that arrise when contemplating programming languages and formal calculi due to these differences. Finally I will describe some of the work going on in the QI team in developing a graphical calculus for quantum computing on continuous variables, motivated by experiments in the LKB lab at SU.
